Abstract

Accidents involving middle school students are important cause of death and disability. They also have enomorous financial implications. In order to prevent middle school students accidents research and education for safety should be strengthened.
The purpose of this study was to determine how often middle school students have accidents and what recognition to safety. The sample consists of 1988 middle school students who were in the first, second and third grades of ten middle schools in Seoul.
The questionnaires asking the accidents occurred during the academic year from March 1998 to February 1998. The content of the questionnaires included item on the occurrence of accidents and recognition of safety. The. data were analyzed using SPSS PC statistical package.
The results of the study are as follows
1. Of 1988 student subjects, 940(47.3%)
had accidents injuries.
And the location where the injury took place, the most frequent place was accident at playground, classroom, passage, toilet and then laboratory room. The time when the hightest accident rate was break time or lunch time(34.6%).
2. Experienced accidents analysis in comparison with schooling way, adaptation to school and score in school differenced significantly (PC 05).
3. Over half students(59.2%) were received information of safety through school. parents, mass. media and book.
4. Recognition level of student subjects were high(2.80) than average.
5. Recognition of safety analysis in comparison with grade, interbrother relationship, adaptation to school, friendship and score in school differenced significantly (p(.05).
